Encartria - Where the Blessed Suffer

Encartria is the sacred kingdom of the Nuem and was crafted with the assistance of the Gods themselves. Much has changed since its abandonment so long ago but there is still plenty of knowledge and treasure to be found for those who are willing to look for it.

The Nuem were an industrious people who had fathomed the techniques required to build many wondrous devices and contraptions far superior to anything conceived by the lesser races of men and Orcnar and their understanding of mechanical principles was incredibly advanced.

This technological superiority was further increased with the assistance of the Gods; the Nuem welcomed their arrival with open arms and as the Gods recognised the potential in them, so too did they recognise the potential in the Gods. The mutual recognition was pleasing and beneficial to both parties and a great partnership was formed.

The Nuem began to take instructions from the Gods and they learnt of mechanics that were even more advanced than their own, with this knowledge they were able to craft the paradise kingdom of Encartria into a utopia that catered for their every conceivable need. The Gods themselves demanded little in way of payment for their services and were content to simply bathe in the praise heaped upon them by the grateful Nuem.

During the war of the Gods, Encartria was a haven for refugees who refused to fight and they flocked to the region hoping to heal the wounds they had suffered. When their pleas for help went unanswered the Gods saw that the Nuem had forgotten all about their deal and had grown lazy and complacent and become completely obsessed with their own self gratification. The Gods despaired when they realised and quickly fled from Relicia never to be seen again.

After the departure of the Gods, the Nuem continued to reshape the landscape regardless, though their designs were not as grand or precise as their predecessors had been. The Nuem became driven by selfish pursuits and their own self importance and arrogance led them to building many garish monuments and statues based upon their selves, often exaggerating their own images to appear much more heroic and magnificent than they actually were in person. The remnants of these statues can still be found scattered across Encartria today as can much of the architecture of the old days.

It is a sad fact that much of Encartria fell into disrepair when the Nuem foolishly fled into the darkness and the shockwave unleashed by the Vaettir ravaged the landscape beyond repair. Fortunately the Nuem are an industrious and determined people and since re-emerging to the surface they have found ways and means of manipulating the landscape once again, though this time they have so far proven to be much more elusive than before. The Amplodomus Poena for instance, is their central point of command and all aspects of their day to day life are somehow connected with the gargantuan complex, yet so far it has been completely undetected by their enemies, its design so brilliant that even up close the untrained eye would struggle to locate an entrance or an opening.

While the Amplodomus is by far the largest structure within Encartria; almost city sized in fact, there also smaller Nuem colonies scattered far and wide throughout the land and beyond into the regions of Eard and the borders of Xanawang. These small outpost colonies are usually only composed of a handful of devoted accompanied by a number of Auxillium but there are a few whose warriors number in the hundreds and possibly even in the thousands.

Of all the horrors I have encountered throughout the far reaches of Relicia there is nothing that I have seen that could have prepared me for the decadence of the Nuem people and the depth of the depravity to which they have sunk. They are unnaturally obsessed and utterly compelled to inflict the most disgustingly degrading punishments upon themselves and each other yet beneath the mindless torment the Nuem are possessed with a superior intellect that borderlines on genius, each and every one of them.

Despite their superior intellect I was able to acquire a pain suit and managed to easily infiltrate them disguised as a devoted warrior of the Metus Dedicatus, I will freely admit that I disabled the pain inducing functions of my armour almost immediately as I found the agony to be too unbearable, it is still to this day a great mystery to me how the Nuem are able to tolerate the strenuous torment of the suits as often as they do.

The mechanical contraptions of the Nuem are superior to those that are occasionally used by the other inhabitants of Relicia and the precise perfection of their workmanship is instantly recognisable. While pain is a virtue for the Nuem, engineering is considered an art and all of them in some way or another contribute to the research and development of the crafts undertaken by their respective guilds and as such many automaton contraptions accompany the warriors of the Nuem, aiding and assisting them wherever necessary.

I was astounded when I finally discovered that the substance the Nuem were using to power these devices was leeched from blackened Mord shard, filthy stone fragments of a raw Maaj like substance that blights the tainted landscape of Encartria far and wide. During their enslavement by the Naedre the Nuem learnt the necessary skills needed to locate and harvest the warping stone and today the vast majority of their pain suits and Auxillium devices are fuelled by its unearthly power.

Since their re emergence upon the surface of Relicia, the Nuem have been stoking the fires of their furnaces constantly, always striving to create more efficient and elaborate contraptions to aid them in their unholy retribution.
