Something had been 'niggling' at the back of my head for a little while about Relics, and I just couldn't put my finger on what it was. You know, like when you have that itch in the middle of your head.... No matter how you try, you just cannot scratch it.

Well, I finally figured out what it was. I'm a little surprised that it wasn't so obvious, but there you go. We had decided, being a UK company, to do Relics in metric. So, this meant centimetres for all measurements. Now its pretty obvious that it was a bad idea after all, so we had to bite the bullet and looked into the effort required to change it.

Personally, I friggin hate metric... Cant judge distances in it for toffee and in the end it just seemed to slow the whole game up to much for my liking. Plodding across a 4 foot (120 cm in metric) table was a ball ache sometimes.

So recently, we have been trying Relics with inches to see if it sped the game up. Guess what, it did. lol. Whilst it hasnt made any difference to the number of time x profile can shoot y profile until they make contact, as all measurements have been adjusted, it has allowed us some more wiggle room with ranges on things.

This means that we will be re-releasing the QSR shortly with all ranges converted to inches. It also means we have more options for ranges on profiles (as measuring an extra inch is easier than an extra cm....) and allows for more variation between profiles and factions... For instance, the Britanan dolls now move 4, a human or Unmann moves 5, an Eotan moves 6 and stuff like a Docga will move 8. When you charge, you add D3 inches to the charge range.

With this change, we move a lot closer to having the rules and the first full lists (12-13 profiles) for the first three factions. So much closer that we are considering releasing them all as an open Alpha test program for any and all to download for free, play and feedback their findings. So be sure to keep an eye out for that in the near future.

In addition to that, I received the test Zeds!!! Zombie sculpt yesterday. Very exciting it was, such a lovely little sculpt, lots of character and lots of fun. Hands up all those who wants a Zeds!!! Zombie....

Lastly, as you may already know, we know have a UK distributor! Kingsley Distribution is now working on getting the Relics range into a UK store near you. If you have a local games store that you want to stock it, tell them to contact http://www.kingsleydistribution.net/ and they will sort them out.

I suppose this fits very well with the Alpha program starting soon too.....

Awesome, awesome, awesome!

My biggest gripe with Relics so far(and only a small one at that) was that I am totally not used to metric and it made the game a bit harder for me, I'm so glad you did this!
Cheers

Good to hear we have pleased atleast one person with the change!!

Keep an eye out for the Alpha release of the rules. Plenty for you to get your teeth into with that.

Playing the Britanan's with the alter measuring system on Wednesday, was different.  The Britanan's were moving the same as normal (well, the fast stuff was quicker), but the Orcnar were storming across the table much faster than before.  Whilst there was some concern over the pain that would be inflicted on my valiant cloth dolls, the positive was the ranges of the Britanan's have changed (slightly) so they could still shoot the snot out of Orcnar, before the invevitable rending of sack-cloth and wood happened......

There are also some nice profiles we were working on too, and the magic system is also coming along. Also, with the changes to distances, one of the spells we had some concerns about on the Tuesday was less concerning with the change to inches and the tweaks to movement.
