The Battle at Greytop Tor.
« on: January 06, 2013, 10:21:12 AM »
So with the year of the Golden Spinner upon them the Essexian Regt. advanced further into the outer realms of the Empire of Hyse Majistie King Jorje.

Still chasing the Nuem invaders the advance guard under the command of CSM Needlestitch came up through the woods towards Greytop Tor, much overgrown and with the remnants of a Britanan fort still in evidence. As they advanced through the trees Needlestitch spotted a Nuem battle line formed up around the ruins on the opposite side of the field and so dispatched his marksmen to cover his flanks. This proved to be a sound tactic as a unit of Screaming Paenatentium ran out of their line towards the advancing Essexians only to have two of their number brutally shot down by the marksman on that flank.

On the Nuem right flank caution was the watch word of the day as they used the cover of the woods to advance towards the Britanan lines. Meanwhile the Nuem left flank after seeing their brethren shot down all started advancing as quickly as possible towards the enemy, with only the Dedicatus sustaining a hit. However the marksman struck again finishing off the Paenetentium who hadn't had the good sense to flee earlier.

On the Britanan right flank the other Dedicatus made short work of the other Marksman by pulling his stuffing out with his drills only to be faced with the main Trooper unit, who couldn't shoot the button off a seamstresses backside.

Back on the other flank the Dedicatus was engaged by both the Dragoons and the Grenadiers and it finally fell due to weight of numbers, even whilst being supported by a Pueri, but managed to rip the stitches out of one Dragoon on his way down. The Pueri decided at that point to turn tail and leg it across the field to join the only flank left but she was chased and caught by the Grenadiers, and whilst she tried to escape she failed and was taken out.

The remaining Dedicatus steamed into the Trooper unit and spent a while laying about them with many a button and toggle flying around as he decimated the unit, however they didn't break and fought back valiantly. Whilst this was happening one of the remaining Pueri was caught  in the open and charged by the remaining Dragoon who dispatched her with consummate ease and then turned to assist the Grenadiers who had trapped the other Pueri in the woods.

With the CSM and the Marksman bolstering the fight with the Dedicatus it finally came crashing down and the remaining Pueri sensing its doom raised her hands in supplication.

The mighty forces of the Essexian Regiment triumphed again for King Jorje.

A great game 235 points a side roughly, two Nuem players vs One Britanan. Lots of buffing Blessed spells going off and Distraction seemed to work well to for the Nuem. Some incredibly lucky dice rolling on my part one the day, starting with my marksmanship first shot rolling two doubles !!
Cheers

Sounds like a good game.

The Pueri seem to be dropping rather easy in the first round of combat. Are you remembering she is obscured from Black Winds so would be obscured during the first round of combat with a unit?

Yeah we were remembering it was just that my dice were damn lucky, I have never thrown so many doubles before lol.

Rid has his tactics wrong for the Nuem right flank as he ran his Paenetentium up the field unsupported and got shot to bits. He now knows that the Pueri will advance with them to give support and cover.

Yeah it was cracking stuff, having seen the marksman pick off 2 paens with one volley (Steve has the best dice ever  ), i have it sorted now, the pueri has to activate first and move up, this will let the paens and dedi etc bomb up the field and still be in range of the scroud.
